How to identify it

Robust, 10–35 mm, brown to gray with dark stripes or mottled patterning. Eight eyes in a distinctive arrangement: four small eyes in a bottom row, two large eyes facing forward, and two large eyes on top. Carry their egg sac attached to the spinnerets and young on their back.

Where it hides

Ground-level harborage: garages, under leaf litter, along exterior walls, under outdoor furniture and in ground-floor rooms that have entry-point gaps.

Signs you have them
  • Large, fast-moving hairy spiders on the floor, garage or lanai
  • Eyeshine (two large green-blue reflective eyes) when hit with a flashlight at night
  • Spiders darting under furniture or appliances when disturbed
Why it matters

Wolf spiders are venomous but their bite causes only mild, localized pain — far less than a bee sting. They're beneficial predators of pest insects. The main risk is alarm; they do not infest or web homes.

How Rhino treats it

Rhino treats the exterior perimeter and seals ground-level entry points. Reducing outdoor lighting that attracts the insects wolf spiders hunt also keeps populations low.
