Florida Bark Scorpion
Slender dark scorpions that climb walls and hide in bark, wood and shoes.

Dark reddish-brown to nearly black, 5–10 cm including the tail, with slender pincers and a stinger at the tail tip. Excellent climbers.
Under tree bark, woodpiles, landscape timbers, pavers and in cool indoor spaces like garages, bathrooms and shoes.

The Florida bark scorpion's sting is painful — like a wasp — with localized swelling, but is rarely medically serious for healthy adults. Reactions can be worse for children and allergic individuals.
