About 30–35 mm, uniformly shiny mahogany-brown with no pale markings on the pronotum — distinguishing it from the American cockroach. Adults are strong fliers, especially toward lights at night.
Tree cavities, mulch, leaf litter, gutters, attics and eaves. They're dehydration-prone and seek moist harborage, moving indoors through gaps in fascia, soffits and around utility penetrations.

Smokybrown cockroaches travel through sewers, compost and rotting organic matter, carrying bacteria to surfaces they land on. They're a leading trigger of asthma when they get indoors.

Not an emergency, but don't sit on it. Smokybrown Cockroach establishes indoors and gets harder — and slower — to clear the longer the colony has to spread. Treated early it's a routine visit; left for a season it usually takes more than one.
