Slender flies, 3–6 mm, with long legs and a needle-like proboscis. Aedes (daytime biters) have white markings; Culex are brownish and bite at dusk.
Any standing water — bromeliads, gutters, bird baths, plant saucers, tarps — plus shaded resting sites in shrubs, under decks and along fence lines.
