Workers come in two sizes: small minor workers (1.5–2 mm) and large-headed major workers (soldiers, 3–4 mm) with disproportionately oversized heads. Brown to dark brown.
Sandy soil under slabs, driveways, landscaping and turf. They nest deep underground and push soil up through concrete cracks. Common throughout South and Central Florida.

Big-headed ants are one of the world's most destructive invasive ant species. Their underground networks can destabilize walkways and driveways, and they displace native ant fauna across large areas.
Is this urgent?
Not an emergency, but don't sit on it. Big-Headed Ant establishes indoors and gets harder — and slower — to clear the longer the colony has to spread. Treated early it's a routine visit; left for a season it usually takes more than one.
